Please note: No action will be taken on an account without going through the appeal process.

Who may submit an appeal?

 An unincorporated Washoe County alarm user may appeal an assessed fee to the Washoe County False Alarm Reduction Program, by setting forth in writing the reasons for the appeal within twenty (20) days of the notice date.

What constitutes a false alarm?

 The Washoe County Alarm Ordinance defines a false alarm as: “an alarm dispatch request to the Sheriff’s Office which results in the responding deputy finding no evidence of a criminal offense or attempted criminal offense after completing an investigation of the alarm site. It also includes an alarm dispatch request that is canceled after a deputy is dispatched and has marked arrival.” 

Appeal Process

Please send written appeals by mail or email to:

To request an appeal, include the following in writing:

* Your permit/account number

* Your name

* Your email address (if applicable)

* The alarm location (if applicable)

* Date of the false alarm (if applicable)

* Reasons for the appeal

* Any supporting documents or evidence

Submit or include a $25 appeal fee. This fee is refunded if the appeal is granted.

* Mail appeal: Checks may be made out to: Washoe County False Alarm Reduction Program

* Email appeal: If the appeal is submitted via email, the $25 appeal fee will be charged to your account.

Appeal Outcome

The Washoe County False Alarm Reduction Program will render a decision in writing.
