Lost Pets - Reclaim or Adoption

Washoe County Regional Animal Services Critical Capacity Notice:

We urgently need your help! Our shelter is currently at critical capacity, and we are working tirelessly to reunite lost pets with their owners and transfer unclaimed animals to rescue partners. However, many of these partners are also facing critical capacity issues, and we need your support to alleviate this situation. Here's how you can help:

1. If your pet is currently at the shelter, please reclaim them as soon as possible. This will free up space for other animals that need our help.

2. If you come across a lost pet, please consider taking them to a local Pet Station store where they can be scanned for a microchip. Fill out a found pet report online with Animal Services, and if possible, hold the pet for 1-2 days to allow the owner time to see your report and contact you. More information on this can be found at helpingpetshome.com

3. Adopting a pet from a local rescue group is a great way to help. This will free up space in local shelters, and rescue groups can then transfer unclaimed pets from Animal Services into their care to help them find a loving home. Nevada Humane Society, one of our main transfer partners, will be holding a free adoption event Friday, March 10, 2023 – Monday, April 2, 2023 to help clear space in the shelters.

4. Consider becoming a foster with a local rescue group to provide temporary care for pets. You can then work with the pet and the rescue to help them find their forever home.

We appreciate your support and generosity during this critical time. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these animals.
