Invocation Requests

Greetings,

Thank you for expressing your concerns regarding the recent invocation at the Washoe County Commission meeting. It’s important to note that under federal law, as advised by the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office from the outset, a governing body is not required to allow invocations, but if it chooses to allow them, it must provide an opportunity for individuals of all backgrounds to participate.

Per the invocation guidelines, requests to participate are honored on a first come, first serve basis, giving priority to those that have not yet provided invocation in front of the BCC. This ensures that every individual or group, regardless of background, has an opportunity to participate in the invocation process. We believe in fostering an inclusive environment and appreciate your continued civic engagement in Washoe County. Thank you for reaching out.
