Annual Winter Preparation
Washoe County is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of those experiencing homelessness in our community. Our housing-first mission is to get residents out of shelters and tents, off the streets, and into permanent housing by addressing basic needs and providing resources at Nevada Cares Campus and Our Place.
Winter is quickly approaching, and we are prepared to open a warming center and winter overflow beds to meet the increased need for shelter and services during the winter months.
Nevada Cares Campus will open the Resource Center warming center 24 hours per day beginning on or about November 1. Nevada Cares Campus and Our Place will open additional winter overflow beds beginning on or about December 1.
If an unhoused individual arrives at either location and there is no available bed in the emergency shelter, they can stay overnight in the winter overflow on a first-come, first-served basis, based on bed availability. Each person who is assigned a bed will be provided with linens and a locker to secure personal items.
Washoe County and emergency shelter operator staff monitor the weather forecasts regularly to ensure inclement weather services are available as winter weather approaches. If community members would like to know if the inclement services are open, they may inquire by calling Cares Campus at 775-329-4141 or Our Place at 775-327-7501.
