Why is a candidate still listed on my sample ballot or ballot if they withdrew from the race?
Nevada law requires candidates to formally withdraw within a specific timeframe, and the withdrawal must be submitted in writing and in person. If a candidate announces they are suspending or ending their campaign after this deadline has passed, their name must still remain on the ballot.
Even if a candidate is no longer actively campaigning, ballots cannot be changed after the withdrawal period has closed.
*Election officials are required to follow state law and cannot make changes to the ballot outside of those legal requirements. Nevada law specifies that candidates must withdraw in person and in writing within a defined timeframe.
If that deadline has passed, election officials are not permitted to remove a candidate’s name from the ballot, even if the candidate has announced they are no longer running. The ballot must remain as required by law.
