Variance Permit Application Process

To Keep More Than Three Dogs or Seven Cats

If you live within the congested areas of Washoe County, you are allowed to have up to three dogs and or seven cats that are over the age of four months without a permit. If you wish to have more than three adult dogs or seven adult cats within your residence, you are required to apply for a Variance Permit through WCRAS per Washoe County Code (WCC), 55.390 for the exception of exemptions mentioned in WCC, 55.430. Other pets in addition to dogs/cats, not applicable to variance permit. Please zoning regulations with Washoe County Planning & Building.
